So…

Latte and I had a talk. She’s been thinking parenting might not be so bad lately… But she’s also worried it might be because of her career insecurity. She knows she can raise a kid, and she knows frankly, we can survive on my income alone if she were to be the primary caregiver, and with the puppy she knows I’m more than willing to come home and take over with energetic critters.

I don’t want her to want a kid just because it’s the path of least resistance, but it’s nice to know the idea is becoming more appealing to her… 🙂

If you crunch the numbers you might find that it’s actually more cost effective for her to stay home with the kid versus the cost of daycare (which is outrageous). That’s how my friend won her argument against her husband and is now a happy stay at home mama. I don’t think most people are absolutely certain they are ready for a kid because it’s a big, scary, lifelong commitment, but one day after talking about it as some distant future concept for so long you are kind of like “okay, let’s do this!”

Every time we’ve talked about it when her mood was not depressed, Latte has been firmly in the “I don’t want to be a stay at home mom” camp, and I want to support that if she feels that way. Dealing with a two year old every day for many hours requires a special sort of person to not go a little crazy. 🙂 I could see her maybe wanting to be at home with an infant, but us doing daycare for a toddler (since it is cheaper than infant care).
