Lucky number 3

I got in for this cycle! At the third place (the hospital affiliated with my OB/Gyn). So I’m sitting here eating a bowl of veggies. I really hope this is the cycle. The doctor told me that he didn’t see any reason why it would take me very long to get pregnant. My weight is good. My thyroid is great. I’ve got nine months of tracking ovulation that shows that I ovulate every month. So, I’m hoping three continues to be lucky for me and this, our third try, is the try that works.

I still need to call the sperm bank and arrange for Ginger Jesus‘ sperm to get shipped on time. But apart from that, I just need to call the nurse when I get a positive OPK and they will schedule us for an IUI for the next day (or the morning 24 hrs after the positive test – so if I surge it won’t be the next morning, but the following one). Because of this, I’ve decided that I won’t record my temperature to pinpoint ovulation. I’ll temp before and a couple days after the insemination, but not the day of and the day after. I don’t want to drive myself crazy second-guessing the timing. Wife, if you’re reading this, please hide the thermometer after I get a positive OPK, and don’t tell me where it is until a couple days after insemination.

Also- let me just say this – prices vary like crazy for fertility tests/treatments. We’re going to be spending almost $200 less/try than the other place that showed me their price sheets (250 vs 330 for the IUI and 100 vs 200 for washing the sperm). If you’re just beginning your TTC journey (which will hopefully be short), call multiple places for prices. Trying to conceive is hard enough without spending more than you need to on it. Definitely avoid places that want you to do a lot of testing before they’ll even give you the time of day even if your “infertility” is caused by your partner’s lack of being biologically capable of producing sperm.
